Annotation
The article describes the cultural life of Far Eastern cities during the years of the Russo-Japanese War, and ponders upon a special role and significance that amateur organizations of various levels (meetings, associations, clubs) used to play in charity activities. A particular attention is paid to the description of holidays, as well as the organization of cultural pastime of the army.
