THREE AMERICAN VERSIONS OF “THE LADY WITH THE PET DOG”

In the twentieth century, both North American and European short fiction were developing
under Chekhov’s influence. Since the end of the last century, international dialogue with
this Russian author has often taken a form of a literary update. The paper discusses
three American versions of The Lady with the Pet Dog and their interaction with
Chekhov’s short story.
