The corporal existence of Man in the world has a responsive character. Not only are the tools adjusted to an object, but also the subject adapts to the instrument in question. Accordingly, one can view a technique of body “engineering” qua tools, employed for modification of the world, ways of altering consciousness as well as practices of formation of corporal skills, habits, and rules of behaviour. Such techniques exist in Oriental culture of mental activity, in classical legacy of “self-care”, in Christian rituals of salvation, and in modern communities.
