This paper is devoted to the little-investigated theme of organization of transport routes – railway tourist-excursion trains. In the 1960s-1980s, tourism and hospitality industry, viewed as a prospective direction in the economy of the Khabarovsk Krai, acted as an original catalyst of the social and economic development of the territory. In the 1960s, railway tourism obtained the widest development out of all kinds of transport. Tourist trains, i.e. “tourist camps on wheels”, became the most available kind of mass traveling. Such journeys allowed the tourists to see much within the framework of one trip, to enrich their knowledge in the spheres of geography, economy, history and arts and to witness the achievements of the labor of the Soviet people.
