Annotation

Cultural modernization of the Russian society was greatly limited by the authoritarian rebirth of power and utilitarian attitude of the government to culture. Specifics of formation of the Soviet theatre system in the Far East during the period of social transformations consisted in the fact that the region in question fostered the circumstances which allowed for the mitigation of the process of Sovietization of art. This state of affairs lasted until the mid-1930s.

Key words: theatre, drama, repertoire, actor, entrepreneur, power, cultural policy.
