FRIEDRICH DERBEK'S RESEARCH IN THE FAR EAST OF RUSSIA AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY

         Sergey Vasilievich Bereznicki is Doctor of Science (History), Professor, Senior Researcher of the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography named after Peter the Great (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Annotation

The article discusses the main stages of life and research activities of Friedrich Derbek, a gifted scientist, specialist in the field of ethnography, history, medicine, epidemiology, hydrography, botany, and museum management. Many aspects of his biography and scientific work still contain white spots and suggest further research in these areas.

        Key words: ethnographic, anthropological, medical and hydrographic research, indigenous peoples of the Far East, the Sea of Okhotsk coast and the Lower Amur.
