The paper addresses the controversial issue of the status of English in Russia within the framework of the World Englishes para-digm. Similar and distinctive aspects of the use of English in Russia and in other countries of the Expanding Circle as well as in the Outer Circle are summed up. The paper argues that English in Russia is a legitimate exonormative variety of English.
