Annotation

This article analyzes the development of concepts of linguistic consciousness in classical linguistics. There are several levels of comprehension of this problem. On the metaphorical level the category of linguistic consciousness is applied as an illustration. The operational level assumes that this concept reflects certain aspects of linguistic and extra-linguistic reality as an auxiliary category. The conceptual level of understanding is connected with an attempt to identify the essential features of linguistic consciousness as an independent phenomenon.

Key words: linguistic consciousness, comprehension levels, consciousness, language, psychological and structural approaches to the understanding of language consciousness.
