Annotation

The article dwells on borrowings in Chinese English mass media. Two groups are singled out: a) language units which do not have any specific Chinese semantics; b) nationally-marked language units, which are not registered by the competent lexicography. The further research of their semantics and functions allows us to distinguish alien orientalisms (language units nominating borrowed notions and key conceptions of Chinese culture in English and fully assimilated) and exotic orientalisms (lexemes which are not as-similated in English and, as a rule, render only phonographic form of the source language unit).

Key words: Chinese journalism in the English language, borrowings, oriental words, alien orientalisms, full alien orientalisms, publicistic alien orientalisms, exotic orientalisms.
