STUDENT’S AUTONOMY AT TODAY’S TERTIARY SCHOOL

The article dwells on the major terms used in educational standards and pedagogical literature to name independent cognitive ac-tivities of students and graduates from tertiary institutions. An effort to differentiate between the terms samostoyatel’naya rabota (self-study) and avtonomnaya rabota (autonomous study) of students is made.
