The article describes the main sociological approaches to the analysis of education as a system. Initially, Systems theory emerged as a scientific concept in the natural sciences. Systems approach in sociology is associated with the names of famous sociologists T. Parsons, H. Spencer, N. Luhmann, etc. Russian sociologists (A. Osipov, V. Tumalev and others) also made significant contribution to this doctrine. The main ideas of the systems approach are as follows: the systems are autonomous, have more or less defined boundaries, share resources with the environment and increase complexity responding to the signals of external environment. There are three main stages of systematic approach development in sociology: the paradigm of "part-whole," "system-environment" and modern concept of "autopoietic system".
