Olga Fyodorovna Leichenko is Senior Lecturer of the Chair of Sociology and Social Psychology at Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University (Vladivostok).
The paper presents the transformation of regional political institutions from 1991 to present times. It demonstrates the changes in the legal status of governors and their influence on political life in the regions, as well as the views of Russian political scientists as regards the new system of election of regional political leaders.
