Annotation

The aim of our research is the analysis of lexical means with the help of which the authors of the American magazine "Newsweek" create the image of one of the leading world powers - China. The main method of investigation is critical discourse analysis. Constructing China's image is made through the prism of liberal discourse. The repertoire of lexical means creating the image of China is diverse: choice of lexemes, density of thematic fields, metaphorization, antonomy, stylistic devices.

Key words: image, the opposite, contradictory, value, discourse, verbalization, lexeme, metaphor, antonym, stylistic devices (oxymoron).
