Annotation

The author of the article discusses the cultural conceptions of politeness as well as its historical origin. Since it is commonly accepted that the English language as a means of indirect communication is employed internationally on a vast scale nowadays, the author argues that the English language is capable of expressing almost all nuances of Chinese politeness maxims.
