Annotation

The author undertakes an analysis of the Taiwan problem viewed from the perspective of interconnections between internal and international factors. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of preconditions and influence of the process of democratization of the political system of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on the relations with the People's Republic of China (the PRC). Relations on both sides of the strait are developing against the background of the geopolitical triangle of the USA - the PRC - Taiwan and the aggravated integration processes in Eastern Asia.

Key words: one China, de-facto state, reunification, democratization, sovereignty, interaction of internal and international factors.
