Annotation

The author of the paper shares his personal experience as an English language educator involved in the coordination of teaching and learning English as an IL (International Language). He discusses the role of English as EIL (English as an International Language) in the global context of contemporary world. The origin of the International Association for World Englishes is traced. The activity of the East-West Center (Honolulu, Hawaii) is evaluated as well as the author's participation in this and other international organizations and workshops aimed at promoting ASEAN principles of 'dialogue and consensus' along with that of 'unity in diversity'.
