GLOBAL AND LOCAL ENGLISH IN ASIAN EDUCATION

Zoya Grigorievna Proshina is Doctor of Philology, Professor of Faculty of Foreign Languages and Area Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The article discusses the role of English as a means for intercultural communication in Asian education institutions. On the one hand, English facilitates internationalization of education and, on the other hand, it expresses local identity of its users. The issues under consideration are viewed from a perspective of a Russian educator who infers possible lessons for the Russian school.
