THE ROLE OF VALUE ORIENTATIONS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF BUSINESS QUALITIES OF A SUCCESSFUL MANAGER

The article examines the value orientations and business qualities of the managers of the railway departments. It shows that the most significant values for the managers are: universalism, security and self-direction. The least significant values are: tradition, stimulation and hedonism. The orientation to the value of security, universalism and self-direction in management activity is closely linked to the skills of decision-making, ability to self-regulation, understanding of values and ability to lead the team. Communicative skills contribute to stable positive interactions with subordinates, manifestation of the activity, responsibility and in whole successful activity. The orientation to the value of security identifies the integration of personal values of the managers and organizational values of the company and reflects the specificity of the activity of the manager of the railway department. Conflicting combination of individual types of values reflects the presence of conflicting objectives in the activity, and at the same time contributes to the actualization of business skills which help to achieve them.
On the basis of the results of correlation and cluster analysis the author revealed the correlation between value orientations, which are manifested in the activity and business qualities, which make up the cluster of valuable and professional resources of the manager. It should be noted, that business qualities which are closely connected with value orientations at the level of individual priorities can be considered as professional resources in the activity of the manager.
