The article examines the value orientations and business qualities of the managers of the railway departments. It shows that the most significant values for the managers are: universalism, security and self-direction. The least significant values are: tradition, stimulation and hedonism. The orientation to the value of security, universalism and self-direction in management activity is closely linked to the skills of decision-making, ability to self-regulation, understanding of values and ability to lead the team. It should be noted, that business qualities which are closely connected with value orientations at the level of individual priorities can be considered as professional resources in the activity of the manager.

Key words: professional activity, business qualities of a manager, value orientations, professional resources.
