PSYCHOLOGICAL DETERMINANTS OF A PERSON'S PROFESSIONAL DIGNITY

The paper deals with professional dignity as an important part of the "person-profession" system. The author considers professional dignity as "inner position" of a professional, which determines value-sense behavior, the system of person's attitude to his professional activity, to himself as a professional and to the subjects of joint activity. It is stated that the identification of psychological determinants of a person's professional dignity will allow both to extend the problem of dignity and the role of personal factors in professional activity. The procedure of empirical study of psychological determinants of a person's professional dignity which includes two stages is represented in the article. The reconstruction of views about professional dignity, worthy and unworthy professional deeds, factors contributing to prove and wound of professional dignity was taken during the first stage. As a result of the second stage the differentiative characteristics of a professional with a high level of professional dignity was exposed. On the basis of the results of these two stages of empirical study the psychological determinants of a person's professional dignity were determined: 1) professional activity; 2) subjective significance of work; 3) internal and external assessment of the efficiency of professional activity; 4) self-esteem need. It was proved that professional dignity initiates the acceptance of responsibility by a specialist for his professional activity.
