Annotation

The present article covers the issues of creating and using language corpora and considers the specificity of speech corpora in terms of different ways of presenting phonetic information. Emphasis is made on the need to use resources of speech corpora (phonetic information) in teaching phonetics/phonology, as well as in integrated multi-level studies in phonology and comparative linguistics. As an example the article describes the practical use of the corpus of English speech samples, produced by native speakers of Russian and Asian languages, in teaching phonetics and translation, as well as in research related to the description of the phonetic systems of the world's varieties of English and to the problems of mastering a foreign language.
