Annotation

The paper is devoted to the problem of defining the terms "metaphysics" and "ontology". The author supposes that metaphysics possesses specific features that are missing in ontology. According to the author, metaphysical knowledge is an unremovable context and a foundation for the development of science and the whole of philosophy.

Key words: ontology, metaphysics, formal ontology, modern philosophy.
