Annotation

The policy of "coming back to Asia" announced by President B. Obama sharpens the rivalry of the USA and China in South-East Asia. Both nations pursue the goal of expanding their spheres of influence in the region and securing domination in on-going integration processes in the region. The South China Sea has become a particular point of competition between the USA and China in Southeast Asia.

Key words: US-China relations, US foreign policy, China, Southeast Asia, Association of South East Asian Nations, the South East Sea.
