A rather urgent problem is considered in this article, it is the problem of social responsibility of educationalists engaged both in educational theory and practice that is quite important for modern society and culture. The idea of social responsibility, which can be applied to this category of workers, is viewed as a criterion of pedagogical professionalism. The social role of educationalists in Russia today can be seen very specially. Professional performance of different social functions executed by educationalists, in author's opinion, promotes development of civil society. It also warrants their responsible attitude to the results of their own educational work in the changing society.
