The article deals with the contribution of German scholars to the formation of the professional philosophical school in the Orthodox Ecclesiastical Academy in the 19th century. The author gives speaks about the activity of Ignatiy Fessler (не уверена в правильности: может быть Vessler) and Johan von Gorn (Horn?) who made the basis for the serious attitude to philosophical studies in st. Petersburg Ecclesiastical Academy. S. V. Pishun points out the most important landmarks in the biography of these German scholars. The author analyzes the contents of the philosophical courses, given by those professors. S.V. Pishun shows the struggle between conservative and liberal groups in Russian education of the time, as regards the possibility of giving the permission to German philosophers to give their courses in Orthodox schools.
